Who We Are
As mentioned, Bethesda Thrift Shops generate revenue for Bethesda Lutheran Communities, a national provider of person-centered, community-based supports and services for thousands of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Success of our stores depends on volunteers. Join the national team of Bethesda thrift shop volunteers and help enhance the lives of the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our stores offer something for everyone when it comes to Volunteer experiences! Bring a positive attitude and a smile! Select from a wide variety of positions; including cashiers, sorters, greeters, display designers and general maintenance workers. A great way to gain retail job experience.
A perfect fit for teens, college students, retirees, corporate service and people in job transition. Volunteer individually or with friends/family or a corporate/civic/church group.
What We Do
To enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through services that share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Sharing the love of Christ with children and adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities is the main focus of Bethesda's ministry. We also provide resources to educate friends, families, congregations and other service providers about developmental disabilities.
By shopping, donating or volunteering at a Bethesda Thrift Shop or Donation Center, you help support the people Bethesda serves. The income generated by our thrift shops helps provide funding for our mission. 100 percent of the net profits from the shops goes directly to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Annually, the shops have provided $1.2 million in revenue that helped pay for beyond-the-budget services such as Christian education and spiritual nurture, custom-built wheelchairs, and personal supplies for the men, women and children supported by Bethesda.
