Art Barn School of Art, Inc

Who We Are

The mission of the Art Barn School of Art is to promote and conduct visual arts education classes and activities for children and adults in a unique, rural, creative environment.  Our vision is to be a vital, financially stable, community-based organization, recognized as a quality forum for people to come together to celebrate art and nurture their artistic endeavors.

Established in 1970 and incorporated as a 501C3 not-for-profit organization in 1984, the Art Barn School of Art, Inc.  is located in the restored country barn on 69 acres of pastoral land.   As Jan wanted, each season inspires oil painters, watercolorists, sculptors, paper makers, mixed media and photographers.  The Sunflower Festival hosted at the farm through the 90’s was a chance to invite the community in to see 7 acres of sunflowers and paint them.  It was named Festival of the Year.   The artists have since brought countless hours of inspiration to children through classes, watercolor classes and art camps and adults through classes, nationally known artist workshops, plein air events and an annual art show.  Janet truly believed that “anyone can do art” and her enthusiasm was contagious.  Through the years, countless volunteers have supported the activities of the Art Barn, develop opportunities for beginners, encouraged those who are coming back to art to continue where they left off or experienced artists who display their works in the gallery and become mentors to those just starting.   It is a place of inspiration for the creative soul and support for the artist within.

What We Do

The Art Barn School of art has weekly classes for children and adults, hosts art events, develops week long workshops with nationally known artists as instructors, and is a meeting place for plein air painting sessions in the woods and fields of the farm.  All media is welcome at the Art Barn, including the following: oil painting, sculpture, watercolor, print making and other creative arts.   There is an annual Juried Art Exhibition, now in its 24th year, with professional Artist Judges and over $5,000 in awards.  In the summer, children can attend a week-long Art Camp.  During the year, there are special workshops such as ornament making, canvas and libations, zentangle and paper making.  In addition, Arty Parties for children or adults celebrate birthdays, holidays, retirement....a variety of reasons to have friends and relatives gather together to do art together.  A special weekend celebration September 16 and 17 will be ART BLITZ, fun for all ages with interactive art, music, hiking the trails, mini-classes, food and drink, drumming and children's activities.  The Art Barn School of Art is a creative rural setting to explore the artists in us all.
